About Dr. Mark
Dr. Mark Bamberger combines formal training in the earth sciences with a later legal education. He earned a geology degree from Miami University of Ohio in 1984, followed by an M.S. in Geology and Geomorphology from Wichita State University in 1986. He completed a Ph.D. in Environmental Science and Political Policy at Union Institute & University in 1995 and later added a J.D. from Capital University Law School in 2007, where he also completed an environmental law certification.
His early legal work began in private practice. In 2008 he worked as an associate at Baver & Bookwalter, LPA. A year later he opened his own practice, The Mark Bamberger Co., LLC, serving as owner and counselor at law. He has taken counsel roles for nonprofit and sanctuary organizations, serving as general counsel for Wolf Creek Wolf Sanctuary and Habitat in 2010 and for the Buckeye Lake Humane Society/B.A.R.K. in 2012. Those positions reflect a recurring engagement with animal welfare organizations and the regulatory issues they face.
Bamberger’s academic background informs the cases and clients he accepts. His geology and environmental science training allow him to assess technical reports and regulatory filings with an uncommon level of familiarity. He is admitted to practice in Ohio and in the Federal Circuit and has handled matters that implicate federal appellate jurisdiction in the 6th Circuit.
Outside of firm work he has been active in the community of lawyers working on animal issues. Since 2008 he has held leadership roles on an Animal Law Committee, serving at times as chairperson, vice chairperson and secretary. Those roles have involved governance, policy review and advising organizations on compliance with state and local rules that affect shelters and sanctuaries.
Clients and colleagues describe Bamberger as a lawyer who brings academic discipline to practical problems. He has moved from the laboratory and field studies of geology to courtroom filings and nonprofit governance. His practice blends advising nonprofits, handling animal-law matters and dealing with environmental and regulatory questions. He concentrates his current practice on animal law, environmental law and counseling for nonprofit organizations.
