About Jason
Jason Horton built a steady career in criminal defense and court advocacy. He studied political science at Texas Lutheran University, earning a B.S. in 1996. He then went on to Texas Tech University School of Law and completed his J.D. in 2003.
His first professional post was as an associate at Crisp, Boyd, Poff, Schubert & Burgess, LLP, where he began practicing in 2003. Five years later he became a shareholder at Harrelson, Horton & Matteson. In 2010 he opened his own practice, Jason Horton Law Office, and has led that firm since. The progression from associate to shareholder to firm owner reflects steady advancement across trial and appellate work.
Horton is admitted in multiple jurisdictions. He holds admission to practice in Texas and Arkansas and is admitted to several federal courts, including the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Fifth and Eighth Circuits and the U.S. Supreme Court. That range of admissions allows him to handle matters that move beyond state trial courts and into appellate or federal forums. He represents clients in criminal matters and post-conviction proceedings, and he handles appeals in both state and federal courts.
Outside the courtroom he has been active in local and professional organizations. He has served as president of the Texarkana Bar Association for the 2014–2015 term. He is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, the Arkansas Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the Arkansas Bar Association. He also serves on the State Bar of Texas District 1 Grievance Committee. Those roles have kept him engaged with practice standards and the legal community in the region.
Colleagues describe Horton as a lawyer who prefers direct work on cases and a measured approach in court. His career shows consistent involvement in trial practice and appeals over two decades. He maintains a private practice that handles criminal defense matters at trial and on appeal, and he takes cases that require admission to or briefing in federal appellate courts.
He currently operates Jason Horton Law Office, where he continues to accept criminal defense and appellate matters in Texas, Arkansas, and relevant federal courts. His current practice focuses on criminal defense and appellate representation.
