About Kyle Douglas

Kyle Douglas Hawkins graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School in 2009. He left law school at a time when many graduates pursued diverse paths. Hawkins moved into public service early in his career and took up work at a state legal office.

He spent part of his early legal career at the Office of the Texas Lawyer General. That role exposed him to the mechanics of government representation and gave him experience on matters that touch state institutions. Colleagues from that period describe him as methodical. The record shows he handled matters that required coordination with state agencies and internal legal teams.

Hawkins is licensed to practice in two jurisdictions: Texas and the District of Columbia. He has been a member of the District of Columbia Bar since 2012. That membership has coincided with work that spans both regulatory and litigation settings, matching the demands of clients who operate across state lines. He maintains active professional standing in both jurisdictions.

After his time in government, Hawkins moved into private practice. He is based at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP. At the firm he has worked on matters that require familiarity with the differing procedural and substantive rules in Texas and the District. He brings to those matters the experience gained in a state legal office and the courtroom practice that followed.

Hawkins’s routine combines courtroom preparation, brief drafting and client advisals. He has been involved in multi-jurisdictional matters where coordination among counsel and attention to local rules matter. Peers say he adapts to changing posture in a case and keeps client needs in clear view during negotiations and hearings.

Outside the courtroom and client meetings, Hawkins participates in bar activities and professional circles in the District. His career path reflects a steady progression from public-sector work to a national law firm platform. He remains at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP, where his practice focuses on matters arising in Texas and the District of Columbia.
