About Mariah America
Mariah America Gleaton took an uncommon path to the law. She studied biology at the University of Maine, Orono, and earned a B.S. in 2010. A few years later she completed a J.D. at the University of Connecticut School of Law in 2014. Those academic choices left her with a mix of scientific training and legal education.
After law school she returned to Maine and established herself in the local legal community. She is licensed to practice in Maine and has been active in civic organizations in the Waterville area since 2014. Her memberships in the Waterville Rotary Club and the Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce reflect an interest in community ties as well as professional networks.
Gleaton’s early career combined courtroom work and client advising. She spent time handling civil matters and representing clients in municipal contexts. Colleagues describe her as pragmatic in court and direct in client meetings. She favors clear explanations over legal jargon. Her background in biology occasionally informs cases that touch on environmental or medical issues, giving her a different frame of reference than many general practitioners.
Her approach to cases is methodical. She prepares thoroughly for hearings and values careful factual investigation. Clients and other lawyers working with her note an emphasis on practical outcomes. She moves between negotiation and litigation when circumstances require it. That flexibility has been a hallmark of her practice since she began practicing in Maine.
Outside the office she has maintained steady involvement in local organizations. Since 2014 she has been a member of the Waterville Rotary Club and the Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce, participating in local events and community projects. Those memberships have kept her connected to business leaders and civic volunteers across central Maine.
Gleaton is based at O Donnell Lee McCowan Phillips, LLC, where she works alongside other attorneys in the firm’s Maine office. Her work combines client counseling, court appearances, and community engagement. She is currently in private practice at O Donnell Lee McCowan Phillips, LLC, where she focuses on legal matters for clients in Maine.
