About Melody Lynn

Melody Lynn Sequoia has built a career that moves between courtroom work, client counsel and occasional teaching. She earned a B.S. from the University of California, San Diego in 2010 and a J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law in 2015. Those credentials laid the groundwork for a practice that spans two states and two federal circuits.

Her early legal experience began in a traditional clerkship. In 2014 she worked as a law clerk at Deutsch, Levy & Engel. After law school she joined Chapman Spingola, LLP as an associate in 2015. Two years later she moved to Tabet DiVito & Rothstein, where she handled matters typical of a busy associate attorney.

In 2020 she founded The Sequoia Law Office. The decision to start her own firm came after years of handling discrete civil matters and building a client base. In 2022 she added an academic role, serving as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Law at Santa Clara University School of Law. That position involved supervising students and guiding clinical placements, alongside maintaining an active practice.

Sequoia is admitted to practice in Illinois and California. She is also admitted to the U.S. District Courts in the Seventh and Ninth Circuits. She joined the Illinois State Bar in 2015 and holds memberships in a range of professional organizations, including the American Bar Association, the California Bar Association, the Chicago Bar Association, the Santa Clara County Bar Association and the San Mateo County Bar Association. She is a member of the National Association of Consumer Advocates and joined the American Constitution Society in 2016.

Her courtroom work and bar affiliations point to a practice centered on consumer matters and civil litigation. Over the years she has handled client-facing litigation, pretrial work and related counseling. Her experience as an associate at two different firms exposed her to multiple facets of civil practice, while her clerkship provided early exposure to legal research and trial preparation.

Colleagues describe her as methodical in case preparation and attentive to procedural detail. She has balanced private practice responsibilities with a brief period in legal education, bringing practical casework into a supervisory role for law students.

Today she runs The Sequoia Law Office and maintains an active caseload. Her practice focuses on consumer protection and related civil litigation.
