About Sarah Jane
Sarah Jane Cauffman built the foundation of her legal career in classrooms and courtrooms. She earned a J.D. from Widener University Delaware School of Law in 1993, where she concentrated in consumer law and bankruptcy. Earlier, she completed a Bachelor of Arts at Pennsylvania State University, University Park, in 1982.
After law school, Cauffman established a practice centered on the kinds of matters she studied. She is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and is also authorized to appear in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Over the years she has handled matters that arise at the intersection of consumer protection and insolvency law.
Her training in bankruptcy and consumer law informs the cases she takes. Colleagues describe her approach as pragmatic: she assesses a client’s legal position, outlines options, and moves cases forward. That practical orientation is evident in both contested matters and negotiated resolutions. She has interacted with trustees, creditors, and opposing counsel in district proceedings and state-level matters.
Cauffman’s work has required attention to statute and procedure. Bankruptcy practice demands careful calendar management and strict adherence to filing rules. It also requires explaining complex processes to people unfamiliar with the courts. She has spent a significant portion of her practice guiding individual clients through those requirements and the paperwork that accompanies filings.
Outside of the courtroom, she has handled client intake, drafted pleadings and motions, and managed case files. Her day-to-day practice combines legal drafting, client counseling, and courtroom appearances when necessary. That mixture of tasks keeps the work varied. It also places a premium on clear communication and steady organization.
Peers and clients often note that bankruptcy cases touch on practical life issues — housing, employment, and family finances. Cauffman’s caseload reflects that reality. She has worked on cases that required sensitivity to personal circumstances while attending to the technical requirements of bankruptcy law.
Cauffman maintains an active practice through the Law Offices. She represents clients in consumer law and bankruptcy matters in Pennsylvania and in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Her current practice concentrates on bankruptcy and consumer law matters.
