About Shawn

Shawn Garrett earned his law degree from Northern Illinois University in 2016 after completing a Bachelor of Business Administration at the University of Illinois–Springfield in 2013. He moved through a traditional academic path. The classroom credentials are straightforward: a business undergraduate degree followed by three years of legal study culminating in a J.D.

After law school Garrett expanded his legal credentials into practice. He is licensed to practice in North Carolina and lists the state among his admitted jurisdictions. He later established Garrett, PLLC and serves as its founding lawyer. At the firm he has taken on the responsibilities that come with running a small practice: client intake, case strategy, and the administrative duties that keep a firm functioning.

Garrett's professional affiliations include membership in the American Bar Association and the Mecklenburg County Bar Association. He participates in bar association activities and maintains ties to the legal community through those memberships. The local bar connection is a regular source of continuing legal education and peer interaction for him.

Colleagues describe his approach as practical and direct. He often frames legal issues in business terms, reflecting his undergraduate study in business. That background informs how he evaluates risk and communicates options to clients. His work at the firm ranges across matters typical of a small, client-driven practice. He handles filings in state court, prepares transactional documents, and meets with individuals and business clients to map out legal strategies.

Garrett balances casework with the everyday demands of running a firm. He manages client communications and external relationships while overseeing case progress. The role requires him to toggle between detailed legal analysis and broader business decisions. He has built a practice that emphasizes responsiveness and clear explanation rather than legal jargon.

Outside the office he remains engaged in continuing education through bar programs and professional gatherings. Those activities keep him current on procedural changes and local rules. He also uses those forums to exchange practical tips with other lawyers in Mecklenburg County and beyond.

He now practices at Garrett, PLLC, serving clients in North Carolina.
